Party Involvement
As a precinct chair, I co-hosted the first Utah County Party Leadership debate/meet the candidates night. Of that event one candidate for leadership wrote: "No other candidate event that I've ever attended has been as enjoyable and worth my time as this evening's event. ... What happened this evening was, in my opinion, the essence of what is required to invigorate the Party..." I also recruited volunteers, caucus attendees, and new party members and kept precinct members in the loop on candidates and issues (beginning in 1989; ongoing).
As Constitution and Bylaws Committee member, I drafted and edited change proposals; recorded minutes for meetings; organized and hosted panel discussions to educate Central Committee members on key issues, prior to voting.
As Constitution and Bylaws Committee Vice-chair, I recorded minutes, helped create training videos, and helped educate the Central Committee members on the process and the issues.
As a Legislative District 27 Education Officer, with my Legislative District leadership team, I hosted live-streaming, pre-Primary U.S. Senate debate between Tim Bridgewater and Mike Lee; helped organize and host full-scale, very well-attended and effective trainings and meet the candidate events. I communicated regularly with precinct officers to keep them informed. I encouraged involvement in campaigns, by example, and promoted our Platform principles. I spent many hours summarizing bylaws so the education committee could understand and teach them.
As Legislative District 27 Chair, I organized and hosted meet the candidate events, caucus host trainings, and meticulously organized my district so that all LD leaders could attend their caucuses.
As UCRP Education Officer, I held numerous county wide trainings (sample videos here, here, and here), as well as going into homes for one-on-one or precinct trainings, as needed.
On my own, I have worked to preserve the caucus system by: arranging and staffing booths on college campuses; working booths at events; helping with fundraisers; working between the two main pro-caucus groups to avoid overlap, and to make the best use of time, money, and volunteers; helping SCC members draft and edit proposals for streamlining caucus night; doing research for the caucus booklet; training delegates and caucus hosts on the value of and best practices for implementing the caucus system; providing multiple large scale trainings through out the county (and in homes as necessary) to makes sure caucus hosts were well-prepared; teaching middle school, high school, and college students how the caucus system works.
Also on my own, I held free, monthly Parliamentary Procedure workshops for over two years to build confidence of delegates and promote effective participation in Party meetings.
I do what needs to be done when it needs doing: helping with Lincoln Day Dinners; helping with campaigns; getting informational emails drafted and out to delegates; recruiting caucus attendees; recruiting and training leaders; organizing people and resources--whatever needs to be done.
